![]() ![]() This applies to all the Golden Brown cases. He told me that from early 2020 they've changed to their "pebbled" leather and with that also "a change in the tanning process". This video shows you how to get amazing looking patina on your Apple Leather Case which is in Golden Brown colour. Yes, I've been in contact with one of the owners of Woolnut actually. Smooth nubuck leather with a great smell and I just know it will get nice patina even though I've only used it for eight hours. until today when I got a Wiiuka case (mentioned a couple of times earlier in this thread)! It's a fantastic case really, compared to Decoded and Woolnut. I didn't bother with returning the case because it is in other aspects still better than the Decoded case and I hadn't found anything to replace it with. The edges are uneven and excess coating has accumulated around the edges. The left photo shows the iPhone 13 case where the branding has been stamped, probably using heat, into the coating. The right photo show how the branding (with a serif on the W) on the 2019 case has been stamped into the leather leaving beveled sharp edges as expected when stamping leather. See the attached photos comparing the top left part of the Woolnut W on the back of the 2019 iphone XR case and the iphone 13. photos taken with a microscope clearly show how the coating has melted and oozed up around where they had put their branding. That doesn't happen with uncoated leather (unless it's oiled leather boots). After 15-20 they were still sitting there on top of the coating. if I put some drops of water on it they weren't absorbed into the leather. The previous Woolnut case got a lighter color in the scratches which could then be rubbed away, more or less. it hard to scratch and scratches have the exact same color as the coating. after over a month it still looks brand new, no signs of any patina or wear. Things that make me sure of it having a PU coating are: So since I knew what leather Woolnut (had) used I pre-ordered the iPhone 13 case expecting it to be the same. I got the Decoded case when I first got the iPhone 13 but I quickly realized it wasn't what they promised. I even used it as a good example when I made a post a while back about the iPhone 13 Decoded case which also is PU coated leather now. In 2019 it was definitely a good leather. But since I own one of their cases from 2019 I can easily compare the leather. He didn't address my claims of the leather having a PU coating though. He told me that from early 2020 they've changed to their "pebbled" leather and with that also "a change in the tanning process". I find the new midnight case to be quite good looking, but in daytime, it’s easy to see that it’s not black.Click to expand.Yes, I've been in contact with one of the owners of Woolnut actually. We all know that something changed with last year‘s model, and it didn’t age quite as well.īut, removing the option, and replacing it with a golden brown, that looks like a combination of the California poppy and SB, resulting in an almost indescribable orangey color, also seems very strange. The color has always been a “fan favorite”, and we’ve always loved to watch how the patina develops. The development of patina is also dependent on the tanning method that was done. Only the top two grades will form patina, full-grain and to a much lesser extent, top-grain. The four types of leather include full-grain, top-grain, corrected grain and genuine leather. But, removing the black option completely, seems very odd.Īnd the same goes for the saddle brown. Only the highest quality leather will form a patina layer. In my opinion, the black looked great with the graphite last year (though the cases weren’t what I would call true black - especially the silicone one - it was more like a dark gray or washed out black). It will only patina where the literal orange paint they coat it with wears off. I know that nobody has the answer to this, but I must say that I’m more than surprised that Apple doesn’t offer a black or saddle brown case for their iPhone 13 pro lineup this year. Golden Brown doesn’t absorb oils and will not darken naturally. ![]()
